“So to know that I can sit here and be in the room or be in a conversation or whatever, you mention MJ, that’s like super dope for me, the kid that I’m from.”
Of course, making history is nothing new for James.
But even though he passed Jordan on his last attempt on the field, fans were quick to make it clear where the power lay.
“Michael Jordan Scored 30+ points in 562 of 1072 games. LeBron James Scored 30+ points in 562 of 1,523 games.
The latter claimed: “LeBron is an all-time great. Easily one of the top five players of all time, but he will never be better than Jordan.”
A third joked, “MJ would come out tomorrow night and throw 30 games,” while a fourth said, “Jordan retired twice, played baseball and still did it in 500 fewer games! “
“He’s been in the league a long time. Should he be first in everything,” concluded the fifth.
Even a teammate Anthony DavisBeing from Chicago, he didn’t let LeBron fully enjoy the last part of his history.
He grilled the star for breaking MJ’s record in his 22nd season and echoed the thoughts of some fans on social media.
“It bothers me,” the Lakers big man said with a grin.
But it took him another seven seasons.
James, who turned 40 last week, remains one of the few active players who witnessed MJ in his prime Chicago Bulls.
When the Lakers star passed the GOAT for fourth on the NBA’s career scoring list in March 2019, the moment brought him to tears on the bench.
He called Jordan “an inspiration” and “lightning in a bottle to me” because I wanted to be like him.
But while his love for MJ is clearly strong, that doesn’t stop him from chasing more records.
