Floyd Mayweather’s former training partner claims “TBE” once knocked out a heavyweight during a brutal sparring session.
Mayweather took it World titles In five different weight classes from super heavyweight to super light weight during one Perfect 50-0 career.
At his peak, Mayweather walked around at 160 pounds, but that didn’t stop him from hurting bigger men in the gym.
Boxer turned promoter Dimitri Ward Part of Mayweather’s preparation for four training camps was during his bantamweight days, and he recalls how the Michigan coach once humbled a bantamweight in the ring.
“We were at the gym just hanging out, it was after one of Floyd’s fights,” Salita said. ES news
“This guy comes into the gym, a heavyweight, and he says, ‘I want to do some boxing,’ and he just talks so bad.
“No one was big enough to fight back, so Floyd was like, ‘Leonard, get my stuff out of the car.’
“Leonard got in the car and got her things for her.
Floyd gets in the ring with him for 30 seconds and he rolls and blocks the shoulder and just hits the guy with a body shot and drops him as a heavyweight.
Roger (Mayweather) always said if somebody’s going to stick it to you on the street, you don’t want to say I’ve got to go to a training camp for six weeks.
“If you’re a real fighter, you go in there and fight.”
And that’s what Floyd did. This spirit and that training is needed from childhood to have a great mentality to become a great fighter.
“Something great like Floyd Mayweather It doesn’t happen by accident, I saw how much effort they put in, how hard they trained and the routine they established.”
Salita also recalled how Mayweather did four-minute rounds with 15-second rests.
To put this into perspective, on fight night, a professional boxer is expected to complete three-minute rounds with a one-minute rest after each bout.
“It was four-minute rounds with 15 seconds of rest in between,” Salita added.
I didn’t know how hard it was until I got in the ring with him.
Floyd gave me a bit of a black eye and I fought ten days later and still had a bit of it, but everyone said Floyd did it, so that was a bonus.
Mayweather was known more for his technical skill than his raw knockout power.
As a pro, he had a decent but by no means extraordinary 54% knockout-to-win ratio, with 27 of his 50 wins coming inside the distance.
Most of that came early in his career, when he was fighting closer to his natural weight.
However, he managed to finish in style by stopping the double bantamweight UFC the hero Conor McGregor in the 10th round of their crossover clash at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
