Novak Djokovic was beaten by world number 293 Reilly Opelka in a stunning upset.
Djokovic is currently in Brisbane preparing for the Australian Open, his first tournament with new coach Andy Murray in his box.
But preparations did not go as planned, with Djokovic eliminated from the Brisbane International in straight sets against Riley Opelka in the quarterfinals.
The 27-year-old American defeated Djokovic in straight sets, 7-6 (8-6) 6-3.
Opelka – ranked 293 in the world – won in straight sets to eliminate the world number seven, leaving Djokovic frustrated as he walked off the court.
Opelka will now face Giovanni Empetschi Pricard, who defeated Djokovic’s doubles partner Nick Kyrgios earlier in the tournament, in the semi-finals.
Opelka is tied with Ivo Karlovic as the tallest player in ATP history, standing at 6 feet 11 inches and serving over 63 meters per second.
Opelka hit 16 aces to the Serb’s eight to shock the 24-time Grand Slam champion.
Djokovic will begin his campaign at the Australian Open on January 12. With a win, she would tie Margaret Court for the most wins in the tournament.
