Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen will go head-to-head tonight in the final of the World Darts Championship, with the winner pocketing £500,000.

17-year-old Luke Littler started the tournament as the pre-tournament favourite, competing for the second time after his breathtaking run to last year’s final.

Littler, who won the Premier League, World Series and Grand Slam of Darts last year, cruised past Stephen Bunting in last night’s semi-final, winning 6-1 after beating Nathan Aspinall 5-2 in his quarter-final on New Year’s Day. .

Michael van Gerwen, the second most successful player in the history of this competition with three world titles, stands in his way for his first world title.

2024 was the first year since 2011 that the Dutchman did not win a major PDC tournament, reaching the finals of the Masters and the World but losing to Stephen Bunting and Luke Humphries respectively.

The 35-year-old won his semi-final with the same ease as Littler, beating Chris Dubey 6-1 after winning his quarter-final against Callan Rydes 5-3.

Littler and Van Gerwen have met 12 times in the past year, with their head-to-head record tied at six, although the Englishman has won both of their last meetings, most recently on the return leg of the European Tour. October when he cruised to a 6-1 leg win despite MVG averaging 112 in the match.
