Arsenal preferred the 12-goal striker to a three-man Sacca backup list.

Arsenal would ‘prefer’ Juventus striker Dusan Vilhovic in January rather than bring in a short-term back-up for Bukayo Saka, according to reports.

Transfer expert Rudy Galletti says the Gunners are ‘prioritizing Dusan Wilhovic as their top January target, with Arteta backed to replace Saka directly.’

Excuse the American spelling but you get the gist. Arsenal will favor long-time striker target Vlahovic – who has scored 12 goals in 22 games for Juventus this season – ahead of a wing option.

He details three names if the Vlahoch deal falls through, with Brentford’s Brian Mbemo joining Jamie Gattens and Leroy Sane as options.

The Gunners are six points clear of Liverpool. Premier League table Gabriel Jesus scored his third Premier League goal of the season alongside Mikel Merino and Gabriel Martinelli in Wednesday night’s victory over Brentford.

Arsenal were without top scorer Kai Havertz as well as Saka (who is sidelined until March), with Ethan Nwaneri filling in on the right side of attack.

“Ethan has played here before, so it’s a good story, to go back to that, I think he was really determined, really committed, taking risks, taking initiative. Very impressive,” Arsenal boss Mikel said. Arteta said.

Pundit Martin Kevin added: “Ethan Nwaneri will certainly get those opportunities with Bukayo Saka unavailable. It’s all waiting to come out under the bonnet.”

“It’s a really exciting prospect for Arsenal. Another kid out of the academy. It’s really important you have players in the group who show the quality of coming through the academy.

Ian Wright was delighted to see the goals spread around the team in Huertz’s absence, saying: “I’m delighted to see these two players find form at a time when Arsenal need it most. . They are scoring goals, playing well and contributing. They’ve realized this season how important their partnership is going to be, you hope that continues for both of them.”

Arsenal could certainly give themselves more goalscoring options if they do eventually sign Vlahovic, who is under contract with Juventus.

The Italian club want him to accept reduced terms as part of ongoing cost-cutting measures but the Serbian striker is reluctant to commit to the club despite threats to sell.

Arsenal could take advantage of his rapidly falling price, with reports in October dropping below £50m.
