Atalanta coach Gasperini was frustrated with decisions after defeating Supercoppa | All Football

Atalanta lost 2-0 in Riyadh as Denzel Dumfries netted twice on Thursday night.

“It’s not easy to create chances against Inter, but he changed the game with that ridiculous goal on a corner that didn’t exist,” said Gasperini afterwards.

“It wasn’t a corner, Stefan de Vrij was offside and standing in front of the goalkeeper, and there was a very obvious foul from Dumfries on Giorgio Scalvini, pushing him with both hands.

“This is Italy exporting a poor version of VAR, one that spent seven minutes checking for Charles De Ketelaere’s offside, but saw none of these three clear situations.”

He added, “We did what we wanted to do.

“At times we fell into Inter’s trap and lost the ball cheaply, but they are a great team and we closed the gap on them. I had to take this opportunity to give the players a start, as Nicolò Zaniolo had not started yet this season and Lazar Samardzic only a couple of times.

“We can’t always start De Ketelaere and Lookman in every game, that becomes a problem. The issue here is that you always ask me why these players don’t start, then when I play them you ask why the others don’t. You can’t get out of this mindset.

“I played international games, not youth players, not reserve players. These are all members of the Atalanta squad. Raoul Bellanova didn’t play because he had a knee injury.”
