Michael Van Gerwen gives an X-rated verdict on his brutal win over Chris Dubey.
Van Gerwen, the three-time champion, was looking to reach his seventh place finish PDC World Championship Final in Eli Pali
He faced off against Geordie powerhouse Chris Dubey in an intriguing semi-final and the opportunity to meet one of the Luke Littler Or Stephen Bunting in tomorrow’s final.
And the “green car” once again showed its ruthless level and punished Dubey, who was making his debut at this stage of the showpiece competition.
The Dutchman said before the match that he needs to put pressure on his opponent and if he does that, he can cause damage in the match.
“All you have to do is play well,” he said.
Dubey is a great player, but when you put him under pressure, he can lose.
“As long as you push him, I can hurt him.”
And that’s exactly what he did, making 46.15 percent of his double-double attempts for a 98.84 average.
He cruised to a 6-1 victory on the night and reached the seventh World Championship final of his illustrious career.
But his post-match interview was what grabbed the attention as he gave an X-rated response to his performance.
He said in his post-match interview the sky Sports: I can be satisfied with the performance, although I did not play as explosively as the previous game.
“I’m here with a mission, with a purpose. As part of that, you’re always going to have ups and downs.
“We’re not close yet. We’re still far away. The title is far away. That’s what you have to keep telling yourself.
I want to keep fighting as long as I have everything in my body. This is my life.
“But that can wait until tomorrow. I haven’t won them all yet. That would be fantastic.
“The crowd loves it, the people at home love it. It’s darts at a high level.
I can be satisfied with the performance. Of course, I didn’t play as explosively as I did last game, but I was efficient.
When I had to do things, I did them at the right moment and that’s what you have to do if you want to win games.
“I love what I do, I love performing on this stage. This is my passion, this is my life – after family. I really enjoyed it.”
Van Gerwen will now be playing in his seventh final of the competition and is eyeing his fourth Syd Waddell Trophy.
A win in tomorrow night’s showdown would make him a four-time champion.
It also cements his position as the most successful player in the history of this sport Phil Taylor.
